Advanced Media Skills for Communications Professionals
Shrinking sound bites. The merging of tabloid and traditional reporting. The growing use of remote interviews. New technologies such as digital television and TV-Internet convergence. These are just a few of the developments affecting news gathering and reporting. Few communications professionals have the time to keep up with all these developments or analyze their impact on day-to-day media relations. That's where The Ammerman Experience comes in. As media skills development experts, we have created a comprehensive, state-of-the-art briefing and workshop for communications professionals who serve as spokespersons or advise others who serve in that role.

Advanced Media Skills for Communications Professionals is a two-day, interactive workshop that provides communications professionals with valuable information about recent and projected developments in newsgathering and reporting techniques, and explains how those changes impact the development, delivery and reception of your messages. The workshop also provides challenging practice in successfully communicating your messages to today's media.

Benefits of Attendance

Thousands of business and other professionals have chosen The Ammerman Experience's Effective Media Communications Workshop in order to learn the skills needed to deal successfully with the media. Advanced Media Skills for Communications Professionals addresses the specialized media training needs of those responsible for an organization's media relations efforts.

In this small-group (maximum 10 persons), two-day session you will:

°   Receive a comprehensive briefing on the changes that have occurred or are projected to occur in newsgathering and reporting.
°   Learn the skills essential to improving your ability to craft and deliver concise messages that appeal to today's journalists and that capture audience attention.
°   Sharpen your media interview skills by participating in videotaped interviews (including a remote interview) on a topic of your choice.
°   See why establishing trust and credibility must be your overriding goal in any media interview, and learn how to achieve this goal.
°   Prepare yourself to make better media relations decisions.
°   Learn how to help your company's management overcome their fear of, or resistance to, the media.
°   Participate in a stimulating crisis scenario that offers practical advice on how to manage the communications aspects of a crisis.
°   Study concepts and develop skills that you can apply to your job … immediately.
°   Prepare yourself and your function to be more valuable to the senior management of your organization.
°   Learn more now about a topic you've been meaning to brush up on … "someday."
°   Receive a challenging and rewarding professional growth experience.

Who Should Attend

This workshop draws middle- to senior-level communications professionals from a variety of organizations, including: consumer product companies and industrial corporations (public and private), public relations and advertising agencies, marcom firms, trade associations and other not-for-profit groups, government and education. Less experienced communications professionals with high potential are also appropriate candidates. The workshop generally attracts:

°   Managers, directors and vice presidents within a communications function.
°   Those who head up the communications function.
°   Communications generalists who have media relations responsibilities.
°   Media relations specialists.
°   Those who serve as spokespersons as well as those who counsel others who function in that role.

Practical Learning

This is a skills-development workshop, not a lecture on concepts. As our firm's name suggests, the training we provide is experiential. We use simulated environments, including tough, experienced journalists. Some features of this workshop are:

°   Instructors and role players with extensive journalism and corporate experience.
°   Attendees participate in a minimum of three one-on-one interviews. Each exercise is videotaped and critiqued in an open forum by the workshop instructors. Attendees also participate in a crisis simulation.
°   The opportunity to be interviewed on a topic of your choice.
°   Practice in handling the communications aspect of a simulated crisis.
